If you own a Bosch dishwasher in Atlanta and you’ve seen E24 on the display, the dishwasher has timed out trying to drain. Bosch displays E24 when it has detected standing water in the basin after a normal drain attempt — the cycle then halts.
The fix is almost always a simple drain-path clog — not a failed pump. Here is the diagnostic order our Bosch-trained Atlanta techs use.
The Bosch service manual definition of E24: Drain timeout / no drain detected. The dishwasher cycle has tried to drain for the expected duration and the basin sensor still detects water.
This is a soft fault — the dishwasher has not failed, it has simply paused for safety. Once the drain path clears, the cycle resumes (or you can restart from the panel).
Bosch dishwashers have a fine-mesh filter assembly at the bottom of the tub. It catches food debris before it reaches the pump. After 60–90 days the filter clogs and water cannot drain through fast enough — E24 is the result.
This solves about 60% of E24 calls in Atlanta. 5-minute fix.
If your installation has an air-gap fitting on the sink top (a small chrome cylinder), check whether food debris has clogged it. Lift the cap, inspect, clean. Atlanta-area homes built before 2000 commonly have air-gap fittings.
If you don’t have an air gap (no chrome cylinder visible), skip this step and go to Step 3.
The drain hose runs from the back of the dishwasher up under the sink. Common failure: a kink behind the cabinet or a high-loop disconnection. Pull the dishwasher forward gently and inspect the hose path.
If the hose feeds into a garbage disposer and the disposer is recently installed, also confirm the dishwasher inlet plug was knocked out during install (a common installer miss).
If the filter, air gap, and hose are all clear and E24 returns, the drain pump itself has likely failed. The pump impeller may be jammed by a foreign object (toothpick, fruit pit, broken glass) or the motor windings have shorted.
Pump replacement is a tech job — the pump is mounted under the tub and accessed by tilting the dishwasher onto its back. Cost: $180–$280 for the part plus flat-rate labour.
If steps 1–3 do not clear E24 within 24 hours, call. Our Bosch repair Atlanta team carries Bosch-specific drain pump assemblies and the diagnostic cable for the service-mode read-out. Most E24 service calls finish in under 60 minutes.
